Building Bridges
July 2024
Ready for some fireworks?
In addition to celebrating America’s independence, this month we’re celebrating an important birthday: Maggie L. Walker herself, born 160 years ago on July 15th, 1864. This Friday, 7/5 the National Parks Service will kick off two weeks of events celebrating Walker’s life and achievements. To learn more about her contributions, and to learn why we chose her as our namesake, check out the new page on our website dedicated to Maggie L. Walker.
Our next online information session is next Tuesday, July 9th at 6pm via Zoom. If you’re interested in the program, we hope to see you there. As well, VHA is now accepting applications for our 2024-2025 AmeriCorps VISTA member! Apply here by July 18.
Check out this video from the National Parks Service where a historical interpreter portraying Maggie Walker gives an interview to an intrepid junior park ranger.
